I am so happy to be blogging again. After 2 weeks of living in a hotel we were able to move into our new home. We had about a week of unpacking (with two sick kids?) and then we hosted Thanksgiving. Needless to say I have been too busy to take pictures and share recipes but that is what I have been itching to do.
Today we finished the last of our Christmas decorating and then the kids went out to play in the snow. You can imagine the magical moment I had by myself in my new kitchen with my camera, a much longed for kitchen window, and the chance to take my first pictures for my blog. (I am a total nerd, I know.)
To greet my kids and husband from the cold I whipped up the perfect cup of hot cocoa. I grew up drinking the hot chocolate mix that you just add hot water to, but now I make a simple, homemade version with ingredients I always have on hand anyway.
Cocoa powder + pure maple syrup + pinch of salt + pinch of cinnamon + milk + vanilla + fresh whipped cream = rich, creamy hot cocoa perfection ??
Thank you for following me and being patient with my lack of blog updates lately. We are counting down to Christmas and a new baby at the same time and I do not see my days slowing down any time in the near future. This blog is a little slice of “me time” and I appreciate you joining me in my kitchen!!
- 3 Tbls cocoa powder
- 2 Tbls pure maple syrup
- pinch of salt
- pinch of cinnamon
- 3 c milk (I use 2%)
- 1 tsp vanilla
- Homemade whipped cream (heavy whipping cream + powdered sugar) (optional)
- In a small sauce pan over medium-low heat whisk together cocoa, maple syrup, salt and cinnamon. Slowly pour in milk and continue to whisk until just about to simmer (or heated to your desired temperature).
- Add vanilla and pour into mugs.
- Top with homemade whipped cream.
